another "donate to me" cause, huh? No thanks. Insure yourself properly and be accountable for your own actions. Part of health insurance is knowing your deductibles....if you don't have deductible money saved, you probably shouldn't be lane splitting (legal or not) or riding a motorcycle in general.

No kidding. If you can't afford the reasonably worst case scenario (I'm not talking catastrophically-bad here) of laying down the bike, breaking some bones, and being out of work for a bit all while you end up fighting the other driver to get your bills paid... You can't afford to ride.

It's illegal for anyone drives/rides in between two vehicles on a two lanes street. Also illegal driving without insurance. Also, he was riding continuously in the middle of two lanes, not allowed others to pass him. Sorry! I don't support this perpetuate behavior.

Keith Bloom 28 minutes ago
Do you GoPro your commute to work every day? I am skeptical this is not a fraud. The "witness" at the end was less than compelling, casually strolling out to the rider and only offering a hand when the rider asked for it. Perhaps it was because he saw you lane-blocking the BMW driver and generally being the kind if rider that drivers loathe to share the road with? I agree with many that if you choose to ride, then insure yourself against the dangers and results of events involving uninsured drivers.

Karen Mierta 56 minutes ago
I don't feel sorry for him. I'm a rider too and was sideswiped a few years ago. But I had INSURANCE on my bike to cover what the other guys INSURANCE did not. Knowing what my medical bills were for my relatively minor injuries were, I don't see what 5,000 is going to do to help this guy... It screams scam to me.

Michael Flynn 1 hour ago
This is a scam. This is a self-entitled arrogant POS that doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut. I pity anyone who donated to this scum.

Max Log 1 hour ago
This just screams scam. And on top of that maybe you should learn to keep your mouth shut. Leave the policing to the actual Police and this would have never happened. You didn't stop a robbery in progress. You aren't a hero. Just a loudmouth with road-rash!

Zero sympathy from me...its almost as bad as the idiot with the gun and the guy on the bike taunting him. And we wonder why the general public hates sportbike riders.

Normally I would totally agree. I'm a bit torn in this case, though. The texting and driving thing has gotten completely out of control, way worse than drunk driving. In some ways, we almost need to start stigmatizing it to get people to stop. Kind of like how people really started to look down on smokers years ago.

The kickstarter and all of that is ridiculous, but no matter how much of a he might be, a hit-and-run is always completely uncalled for.

I'm one of those guys who texts and drives.

I also text and ride.

If you want to ban texting, then you need to ban eating, drinking, changing radio stations slapping your kids in the back seat etc etc.

Texting isn't the problem, there have always been wrecks caused by people not paying attention to the road before texting came around.

None of those pre-existing distractions are as bad as cell phones, though. People completely check out when they are messing with their phones. The human brain simply cannot handle both tasks at once, regardless of how anyone feels otherwise.

I swear, half of the traffic in this city would vanish if people would put their phone down, and actually GO when the light turns green.

Do you have to look at the burger while you're forcing it into your face? I can smack a kid and keep my eyes on the road, especially since they should be fastened in or to their seat. I can control my radio from my steering wheel.

I see people spending more time texting than any of the examples you cited, plus they're usually alone if you don't count their wireless friends

Since I started street I always thought leo would be more effective in increasing public safety and also bringing in "revenue" if they cut back some on the chickenshit speed traps and instead had some officers cruising on bikes with ghost decals ticketing distracted drivers.

Get them a few dual sports or even sport bikes so they don't stand out as leo but ds's would be a lot more versatile for a pd to have.

It's just so easy to spot them when riding and imo would be less downtown between tickets than when they are sitting on the side of the road and you know.. would actually make the roadways safer instead of just drumming up $.

One of the things I would do if I'm ever el dictator of Houston for a day.

No, you don't HAVE to, but most turn away anyhow.

And you don't have to turn away while texting either.
