Rice Owls beat UH Cougars in 6-hour, 20-inning game

The Rice Owls and the University of Houston Cougars battled on the diamond for more than 6 hours in the NCAA Houston Regional.

The Owls' baseball team beat the Cougars, 3-2, after getting the winning run in the 20th inning. The game was the second-longest in Houston history.

The win means the Owls move on to the NCAA Regional Championship game to face the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns.

Rice will be the home team for the game, which begins at 1 p.m. Monday on Cougar Field.

To advance, the Owls must beat the Ragin' Cajuns twice. If they win at 1 p.m., the college teams will face off again Monday evening in a winner-takes-all game. That second game would start at 6 p.m.
