As someone who has ridden several 600 and 1000cc supersports, I never understood, "It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow". I am firmly in the small displacement camp now having purchased the Ninja 300.

It becomes stressful owning a powerful motorbike for non-track purposes, unable to use 100% of it without hurting yourself and others. In addition, poor infrastructure, quality of drivers, increasing road congestion, and proliferation of using cell phones whilst driving means riders around the world need a higher margin of error to be safe. I believe smaller bikes offer that. Although I miss powerful brakes, a deeper sound, and having the (rare) occasion to twist the throttle and leave traffic far behind, you adapt eventually. More importantly, the dirt-cheap insurance costs, fuel efficiency, cheaper parts and simpler maintenance, and not worrying about theft are a huge plus.

You're entering the market at a great time. The CBR300R, Ninja 300, R3, and 390 Duke/RC390 are fantastic bikes.
