I have been reading up on them and just wanted to know just how bad the 2ed gear problem was....??? Triumph knows that there is a problem... but, won't issue a recall on them about bad 2ed gears... over 20 of labor to fix it.....

I have been to a bunch of them... there are a few up here in PA where I'm working for sale... one up in NH that is one sweet ride... it's been to Carpenters Race Shop for trans/motor upgrade, header, extended foot pegs (owner is 6'-6" tall like me) and a load of nice add-on's....

this. correct.

a lot of the issues (across all bikes) a lot of time can be pinned down on owner negligence. Obviously yes there is an "issue" but i wouldnt let it deter you too much. My dads rocket was just that, a rocket. awesome bikes! just dont slam the gears and keep fresh fluids in it. goes a long way with any mechanical thingy.

I've ridden one. Tons of Torque and sounds like a diesel freight train hauling down the road! Very unique!

I figured you probably had, but if you're wondering how bad a bike-specific problem is I'd think the place where the owners of said bike gather would be the place to ask. I don't think I've seen more than a couple of R3's in the Houston area, and can't recall seeing one owned by a member on here.

Again, wasn't trying to be a jack by stating the obvious, but that is a spot where I go to find Triumph-specific information.

Oh yeah, and I've heard good things about Carpenter's R3 mods... they get a ton of power out of those things.

never owned one, but ridden a couple. They pull like a freight train, and can lift the front tire off the ground even with that giant tractor motor hanging in the front.

I went and looked at and test rode a rocket last night..... It was a very nice bike with a load of add-on's, including a very nice sounding pipe.. I still have a grin on my face... this seller just wants too much for his bike...

I had a 2008 R3T, loved it, did a bunch of upgrades to it. What do you want to know? A lot of the guys I ride with have them or have owned them at some point. Never had any issues with mine. The folks on the RIII forum are pretty helpful also. It is a beast of a bike. The touring handles better than the classic or the roadster. I'd still have mine if my wife hadn't decided she liked riding and hated the rear seat.

If you decide to buy one, give me a visit at British USA / Gulf coast BMW, ask for Zach. we have one with a 240 pack, make 240hp, thing is a monster, if thats too much we have some factory ones as well. as for the second gear problem, i never noticed anything with the new ones, any pre 2012 rocket III's you would want to go with the touring version, their geared and tuned differently so you get less wheel hop and their not as jerky, still lots of power.
