take the msf and then take him to the track and let him really learn bout his bike and what its capable of. most people who crash dont know what there bike feels like right before the tires let go. and so they crash. but if you know the limit and how to get your bike back in total control thats when you become a good rider. msf teaches basics, the track teaches you where the limits are, and thats the best way to survive

getting a bike because of better mpg is the worst idea i've ever heard. that 10 or so mpg less that the car gets more than makes up for itself every time it rains or goes over 95 degrees.

Right?

If I was only going to have one vehicle it would be a bike.

But that's because I love bikes and couldn't do without one.

If I was only going to have a bike it wouldn't be because it got better gas mileage.

Remind your boy that he lives in Houston. It rains here ALL the time.

You can't carry more than a 20 pack of bottles on the gas tank, and the seat hump is only good for a fifth (or a liter bottle on the busa with the hump-mod.)

If using the bike as a commuter, get a job where your boss doesn't care that your clothes are wrinkled, you wear bugs like tats and you smell like exhaust.

On the other hand, you ride a motorcycle - all of the time - everywhere you go. That might not be such a bad thing.

the 20 case be false, i fit 3 20 packs on it, one on the tank, and 2 strapped to the back seat, i rode 20 mph the whole way home

Try showing him horrible pictures of motorcycle crashes, and tell him stories... the ones no one likes to hear. Hopefully he will respect the bike a little more.

instead of trying to talk him out of getting the bike, you should teach him how to ride. Everyone has to start somewhere. Everytime we get on our bikes experience or not we take our chances, its part of riding. You can only pray that the good lord gives you another day.

i'm not trying to talk him out of it. i just dont think its a good idea to trade your car in for a bike when you dont even know where to begin with it.
