I need help...bad

A friend of mine decided to trade his car in for a motorcycle because of gas prices, which is completely understandable. His only problem is, he has never ever ever ridden a motorcycle. He does not know the first thing about it. He has already signed the paperwork on his car, and is getting his bike within the next week or so. I'm trying to convince him that what he did was a horrible idea because he does not know the first thing about driving a bike. I mean it's not hard, but you need seat time to get used to the feel of it. He doesnt have any gear or anything. If someone could tell me what to say to him to make him change his mind or at least put off completely getting rid of his car for a bike, please let me know. I dont wanna have to bury him because of a rookie mistake.

seems like it's too late as far as the vehicles go ... so now the only option is to teach him how to ride, get him signed up at the next available MSF and try and coach him through the finer points of riding.

get a 250, take msf, stay in a parking lot, then, ride around the neighborhood for a while, then start stepping up to regular streets, ride like your invisible and every car is out to hit you.

He is a grown man to decide for himself.. Be his friend and point him in the right direction like msf and reading up on the subject of motorcycling safety.
And be sure to mention motohouston as a good source of info. There is a ton of resources and experience on the board.

If he has already gotten rid of the car, I don't know how much help MSF is gonna be. It seems like he would have to start riding right away, unless he doesn't have to go to work or something???

quit wastin time bro. sign him up, talk to him about riding safe, and every free chance u get put him on ur bike in an empty parking lot. put him on the back and explain the gears, brakes, lights, what to wear, all of the above. show him some pics of accidents to keep him alert of what's at risk if he doesn't ride safe. i'm doin all this with my girl at the moment.

that's exactly what i told him. he thought it was like driving a car. i was told o no, you need practice. you just cant jump on a freeway the day you get it, especially if you've never driven one, let alone even ridden on one

I think that he has already made up his mind and gas prices is just another excuses. You could tell him to keep his car and you would lend him your motorcycle and let him test ride it for awhile. Nevermind, that will just makes him more addicted to bikes. Sorry, suggest MSF like everyone here.
