SHNF Trails Closed!

All Forest Users:

I just got a call from District Ranges Warren Oja; the SHNF had a large wind event the first of this week. There may be over a 1,000 acres of downed trees. These are green trees & may be under tension. One of the FS sawyers was injured today cutting a tree that was under tension & has a broken leg in three placed.

Until further notice no volunteers are to cut trees in the forest, because of the danger.

The FS is currently surveying for a salvage sale. If you are out walking any of the trails, get a count of the downed trees & report the trail location and count to me.

All multi-use trails are closed, because, of the danger.

That sound Brutal.

Well I was planning on going out Saturday but not anymore.

Any other suggestions for something similar around these parts?

Sterling ranch is another option. Went to an offroad riding school last weekend that was held there. They have like a 6 mile course and some oval and figure 8 tracks to train on that we're set up last weekend.

FYI====TRH is having a harescramble race at Sterling Ranch this Sunday, 5/3/15, with practice on Friday and Saturday there. Probably best option since the forest is shut down for awhile.

Looks like the Balloon loop had a tornado go thru it and caused extensive damage there. We are working with Warren (SHNF) to see about reopening the east side but will need an inventory of what shape those trails are in before they will consider reopening them. West side will take much longer to reopen due to all the down trees and debret on the trails. We will be asking for some volunteer efforts to check the east side and report to the SHNF, more to come on this when we have more details.......

update====talked with Jason with the SHNF and all mut trails will be closed this weekend, however he is going to try and check all the bridges on the east side next week and has ok'ed ODODB members to ride all the east side trails to find out what damage has been done on the east side, ie downed trees and broken limbs blocking the trails. Once this has been surveyed, we can go out and clean it up again and he will reopen the east side. If he feels there wasn't much damage on the east side while he is checking the bridges he could possibly open it sooner. Stay tuned boys and guys!!!!!!

ArkansasDave, google the site "Old Dudes on Dirt Bikes" if you want to know when we are going out to check trails or even work on them. We post it everytime there. We have a post for next Saturday to go out and check the condition of the east side trails and hopefully help the forestry service reopen that area for riding soon.
