Marzocchi reported to be on the verge of closure

Ducati MV BMW and Bimota among firms that will have to change suppliers

Marzocchi reported to be on the verge of closure

MARZOCCHI is one of those names in suspension that has a certain mystique having long been one of the favoured choices of top-end brands like MV Agusta, Ducati and Bimota, but Italian reports now say that the firm is being closed down and those companies will have to look elsewhere for a supply of forks.

Owned since 2008 by American parent firm Tenneco, the suspension firm has been under threat since 2011 when intentions to close its Bologna factory were first mooted. That threat was postponed, but Italian reports now say that that the axe is set to fall in September, putting 120 employees out of work and ending supplies of Marzocchi suspension. The decision was apparently confirmed after a meeting between Tenneco and the workers’ unions on April 14.

Tenneco’s lease on the Bologna factory has not been renewed and manufacturers currently using Marzocchi parts are understood to have been informed that they will need to look elsewhere for their 2016 models.

While there must still be a chance that a saviour will scoop up Marzocchi between now and September, hopes don’t appear to be high.
