they could have gone the firestone route and waited for people to start getting bucked from their bikes before doing/saying anything.

Actually, since there are no accidents so far and they take the mounting an balance tab, you get to have two new tires for the price of one

Just spoke to the tire representative. If the tire says "Made in France' it is affected by the recall. Most dealers are now just finding out it via the tire reps and will have formal instructions on handling the recall by Monday or Tuesday of next week.

If the tire says "Made in Spain" then you are not affected by the recall.

So it is only the front tire right? I can't see mine because it is already loaded on the trailer for my trackday tomorrow!

Thats how I read it.. It only specifies the front.

PARIS, June 15 (Reuters) - French tyre group Michelin (MICP.PA: Quote, Profile , Research) said on Friday it was recalling some 68,000 motorbike tyres after finding a possible defect in their tread due to a manufacturing fault.
The company said it would recall the Pilot Power 2CT and Pilot Power 120/70 ZR 17 front motorcycle tyres. A Michelin spokeswoman said the recall would affect tyres sold in 40 countries in north America and Europe.
Michelin added no accidents had occured as a result of the fault.

J:eh:

They are made in France.. so my guess is the tires are surrendering too easily~

They have to be made in France AND have the 979T or 980T D.O.T. numbers.
If it doesn't have BOTH than there's no problems.

As far as "I should have gone with another tire.";
As long as I've been in this industry, almost evey tire mfr. has had at least one recall on their product.
As was said, I think Michelin is doing the right thing by recalling the tire even though there's been no accidents to date.

BTW, FWIW, Firestone is made by Bridgestone.

Last but not least. If you have ANY doubts at all, then don't ride on the tires till they have been replaced.

We should have info on the replacement program early next week.

Yes, ANY authorized Michelin distributor can swap out the tires once the program begins.
