At this point there's also no call for hysteria or over-reacting.

The people I spoke to at Michelin affirmed that there have been ZERO failures, but that this is a pro-active recall to avoid any issues.

Oh I was mistaken, he has Pirelli's...OH DAYUM, I have a 2CT on the front tho...

Within what time frame and for what list of cities/states is this recall in effect for? I got my 2CT front From SW Cycle Gear about 3-5 months ago, treads almost gone though so I don't know whether to turn it in or let it go...

Yikes!

I just got a new PP on the front recently... :(

well I will keep reading up on this thread. Patrick is finding out which is nice for him to do that. I am just wondering if we would have to go to the same people we got it from or if the recall can be sent to anyone to replace the tire? I got mine over at discount motorcycle tire, and they haven't heard anything about it. All I got was to speak to Tom and see what he says.

Patrick told me I had nothing to worry about right now, and he would be sure to let me know as soon as he knew anything.
I have the utmost of trust in Patrick and his judgement.

Patrick may be able to check

1. Look at your front PP2CT to see if it was "Made in France"
2. Look to see if it has the following Serial Numbers: 6UCW980T, 6UCW979T

Michelin has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Transport Canada that it is recalling Michelin Pilot Power 2CT and Pilot Power 120/70 ZR 17 (58W) front motorcycle tires with the “Made in France” markings in the United States and Canada.
This recall involves these specific tires only and has no impact on any other Michelin tires. Related actions are under way in other countries.
An examination of these tires showed a possible defect in the tread due to a manufacturing irregularity.
No cases of pressure loss have been reported and no accidents have occurred.
Because rider safety is the primary concern, Michelin has decided as a precaution to replace the 120/70 ZR 17 (58W) Michelin Pilot Power 2CT and Michelin Pilot Power front tires, which can be identified by the following markings on the sidewall: a “Made in France” label, and DOT 6UCW 980T or DOT 6UCW 979T.
Any consumer in the United States or Canada who believes they are affected by the recall should not wait to receive notification but should call Michelin consumer relations at 1 866 324 2835.
The company will be replacing all potentially affected tires in a comprehensive commitment to retrieve from the market any tire that does not meet Michelin quality standards.
Replacement tires are available at no cost (including mounting and balancing) to consumers through participating Michelin motorcycle tire servicing retailers.

I just got the D.O.T. codes, they are: 6UCW979T and 6UCW980T. The tires had to have been manufactured in France.

I've spoken with my rep and was told we should have full details sometime Tuesday next week; replacement tires availability, etc.

Michelin will be taking care of mount and balance fees as well as the tire replacement.

You can bring them to ANY Michelin retailer for the warranty once the program has been put in place.
I do not anticipate any further info on it this weekend, but will post up as soon as I know something.

Be assured that I will be following this very closely.

Once again, I wouldn't get overly wound up about this.

Michelin is showing HUGE responsibility by recalling the tires, unlike some of the other tire manufacturers in the recent past. (Firestone comes to mind)

While it's going to be somewhat of an inconvenience to have your tire replaced, on the bright side you will be getting a BRAND NEW TIRE free of charge, regardless of the mileage on your old tire.

It has to be BOTH, made in France AND the DOT codes.
