license plate cost!!!!

ok so I finally got around to transferring my bike over to Texas and all that good stuff from Louisiana an I can't believe how much it was to just put a plate on my bike it cost me as much money to plate, and register my bike here as it did for a year of insurance for me. 200 is a bit much, it only cost me $85 over in Lafayette when I bought the bike. Anyhow I was able to get a custom plate for free so I guess that's not all bad but still was kind of blind sided by it. Anyone else have this issue or other miscellaneous expenses arise when doing something motorcycle related?

Exactly, custom plates are not free unless something has just changed recently.

Typical title change, safety inspection and registration costs less than $100. However you got charged the unique to Texas $90 one time "New Resident" tax. It's the states way of saying bend over and welcome to Texas. Lol

I remember I had to pay that new resident fee when I transferred my car registration here. I also remember being a little irritated, but it is what it is. I do like my snazzy US Paratrooper plates I get for free on my car and my bike though.

That being said... Its still better than all the required to transfer bike registration to California! I've heard horror stories that make me thankful for the meager fee here in Texas.

I did notice that too! No way I would go without full coverage on my bike... But that's just me! Theft Ins is definitely a must here in H-town! Garages aren't as secure as everyone thinks either... I have seen how easily apartment maintenance guys get in with a coat hanger when the power is out. All it takes is you working on your bike with the garage door open, and someone driving by scouting for prospective victims... You think you're bike is safe.. then you open up the garage one morning to find it empty.

I paid $140 for my custom plate and will keep paying premium registration fees in order to keep it.

A lot of people still believe having a vehicle is a necessity, it is still a privilege. With that being said, nothing is cheap... especially when you want something that is not the norm.

I have full coverage thru usaa and I never said it was a cheap sport I'm aware of it being expensive however I was only taken off guard when I was under the assumption, with info from the people at the tax office in Richmond, that there would only be a 33.50 surcharge to pay for registration and a 70$ plate fee I paid the plate fee on line an when I got there I was sadly mistaken. I'm sure if I read up on it a bit more before I went I would have known better. Still I was taken for a loop. Also I did get custom 911 plates and I did not have to pay for my m endorsement or my cdl to transfer over when I updated my DL I only had to pay $16 for the new DL

This I agree with wholeheartedly and in my case I defiantly do not need transportation as my work is in my neighborhood and I have friends in the area that can take me to my unit when needed... However I might be a slight bit spoiled with my bike and car and rely on it for thing I could work around if I had to.. Long story short I like to drive and I'm a about inconveniences.

No no it isn't I think they just gave me an extra plate they had sitting around I would have preferred the black and white one cause it would not stand out as much on my bike cause it's black
