Maybe each of the new KTM closed course superbikes will soon have a near identical street legal blue Husqvarna version with 5 hp less??

As stated if he is worried about safety explain the 170 hp Adventure bike being dangled in front of inexperienced mid life crisis riders enticing them to ride it off road.

WTF.....I love my bike. Sort of sad that they don't want to keep producing a street version. They have been pushing the out of the StupidDuke, and the RC8 is a lot better looking and has more HP....well, mine does hahaha...

Oh well...

I like how he said they could compete with MotoGP bikes yet they currently have trouble competing with regular production based bike.

He's right, nobody needs 200hp bikes.
And you don't need armor piercing ammo, high capacity magazines or drugs either.
You just need to buy stuff, keep working for lower returns, pay your taxes and shut the up

specifically superbike sales. I'm sure their dirt stuff is fine. If they are losing money this might makes sense.

They released this info a while back. That article is rather misleading. The reason for this is they are discontinuing the RC8. They are developing the RC16 which will be their MotoGP Platform. They announced that they will have the RC16 for sale in limited numbers for something like $350,000. In the same press release they stated that the RC16 was too much bike for onroad so they deemed it a race only bike, and announced they would not be making a street version.

While I personally think that sucks.... Because I could never afford to own the next gen KTM, I understand the companies point of view.

Excited to see what the new 16 valve v4 will look like though...

This has more to do with the new Euro legislation for motorcycles.

For 2016 they must all be Euro4. Which is a emissions standard currently applied to cars. It brings in requirements for OBD, On Board Diagnostics, which continously monitor emissions with additional sensors and requires all power train related components to be made tamper proof from aftermarket performemce modifications. By 2020 it goes to Euro 5 which is the current highest car standard for europe. They have closed all the doors on motorcycles getting special treatment for environmental Regs.

On those grounds KTM know they are either out all together or make non-road legal versions of their bikes.

Sound familiar? it's how the two strokes went down.

By the way, in case you were wondering electrics have no emissions controls and KTM are currently undergoing massive development in the area. Same interview they pulled from detailed those efforts.

Their bikes are only overpriced if your a bike fan. In fact, they are not that much more than an R1 or a CBR 1000....

The KTM can compete with all the other Euro bikes. After my first one was stolen, I test rode a few other bikes before I bought another one. I was going to drop $30,000 on a new Duc, but for me, after riding it, it had nothing on my RC8.

That's just my opinion....

The Japanese bikes are getting closer in price to the European base model bikes. The Yamaha R1M cost more than the Duc 1299 Base.

If KTM develops another V4 for MotoGP, I am sure the public demand for a street version will be high. KTM will see dollar signs, forcing them to produce a street version. I am surprised KTM isn't putting the Superduke 1290 motor in a sportbike.
