Bike at shop for a month

I paid a non site sponsor shop to do a valve adjustment, degree cams, and install a manual cct, it took the shop a month and 1 week to return my bike, the day I ride it home I have oil dripping on my boot so I take it back the next day as I picked up at closing time, so when I take it back he says its the spak plug gasket that is apart of the valve cover gasket is causing the oil to come out a small hole on the on the valve cover, so I order the valve cover gasket , he gets it Monday morning and on Tuesday he says yeah I should have it done by the weekend, should I be responsible for paying for the new valve cover gasket getting put back on

Should you have to pay for labor to replace the gasket?

That's a tough call. The gaskets are designed to be re-usable and he apparently did. But they're not designed to last forever. Age and miles on the bike should have played a factor in his determining whether he should have re-used or replaced the gasket.

since it's a shop and he's spending your money, I'm surprised he didn't just install a new gasket in the first place.

How old is the bike and how many miles on it?

A good mechanic will;

1. Know when it is time for new valve cover gasket.

2. NOT put sticky goo on a gasket that was never intended to use it, because he did not follow #1 above.

note: on some valve cover gaskets there are specific areas that rtv is to be used to supplement it in difficult to seal (uneven surfaces, joints, etc.) But not likely around the spark plug hole.
