Question Are there neighborhoods/areas to avoid when riding?

It's been a few months since I moved here. I like to ride to other parts of cities as a casual urban explorer and architect fan. I haven't seen much of Houston besides the tourist attractions, downtown, Galleria, Med Center, Museum District, Sugar Land and Woodlands.

The cities I've lived in the past like Chicago and Detroit, you don't drive in certain neighborhoods in the daytime let alone on a motorcycle where you're further exposed. Are there areas like that in Houston? So far I've been told to stay out of the Third and Fifth Ward day and night.

^^this but you got to be smart about it...if you look lost and like a tourist then you will be treated as such. I live on the border of 5th Ward and I wouldnt go tooling around in the nieghborhood at 3am unless I heading to the freeway at a nice clip on a main road....

I tend to stay in the ghettos, especially if I am playing and don't want LEO attention.

There are some GOOD places to eat in 3rd and 5th ward. Rough neighborhoods, yeah, but not necessarily a place you can't go.

I drive/ride all over Houston, Pasadena, South Houston, and to Galveston with no trouble. The only thing I would suggest (as stated already), don't ride into neighborhoods you are not familiar with after midnight... especially into the Wards! Either you will be sold drugs, women, weapons, or you will be a victim of something... or possibly be a suspect if you are that weak minded.

Other than that ride safe and smart! Welcome to the city of road rage!

if you aren't a moron there's nothing dangerous about riding around any of the wards. I drove through there every day for years to go to UH. Only fights I ever got in were in the heights, river oaks and mid town.
