Guess that depends on whether or not you can do your own valve job, and whether "parts availability" refers to the stash of 8 engines in my garage.

It's really been a good bike. There have been the usual problems that go with any bike (battery, dead voltage regulator, drive belt wear) and it's consumables, but if you're at all mechanically inclined and do your research it's a fine bike. Mine was an early '07 and suffered from a casting flaw in the head that caused it to drop a valve within about 2400 miles, but the engine was replaced with a new one under warranty that didn't have the problem, and it's had close to 18k miles since then with no problems.

The company is its own biggest problem here, as they don't seem to want to put any effort into becoming a real presence here in the states. Unlike most reputable motorcycle companies, they want to manufacture a product and let another company distribute it, which is why they've been sold under the brands Alpha Sports, United Motors, Hyosung (their own brand, now S&T Motors), and now ATK in the ~10 years they've been here. That partly goes back to their company history as a parts supplier, as they've had manufacturing agreements with Suzuki going back decades. There's a good reason their 650 v-twin very closely resembles the SV650, down to using the exact same Mikuni carb setup.

For all the Hyo gets about being a "China-" company, Fischer Motor Co. got good reviews for their sport bike, which was powered by a Hyosung 650.

My first street bike was an early 80s GS500, I bought it used from a friend in 92 or so, I was 19, Las Vegas. I rode it to work everyday for a few years, even with a cast on my leg for 6 months. Good times!
