MarTrain Racing signs Gary Johnson
Johnson to line up alongside Dean Harrison for supersport road races
MAR-TRAIN Racing has announced that Gary Johnson will compete for the team at this year’s North West 200 and the Isle of Man TT in the supersport classes.
Johnson, of Lincolnshire, will team-up with Dean Harrison in the supersport races on-board the Mar-Train Racing Yamaha YZR R6.
Johnson, 34, saw success in the Supersport class at the Isle of Man TT in 2011 and 2014, finishing on top of the podium in both years.
Harrison is also a TT winner, giving the official Yamaha UK team what should be a formidable two-pronged attack, and a good chance of adding to their two international road race wins of 2014.
Johnson said: 'I’m really looking forward to getting on the Yamaha. It’s one of the fastest bikes out there and it would be fantastic to win three TTs for three different manufacturers.
'The Mar-Train boys do a proper job, they’ve won North West 200s and came close to winning three British championships from three attempts so you cannot argue with their credentials. Contacting Tim about a supersport ride was an easy decision. The standard of his bikes and team are unquestionable.
'I’m also looking forward to teaming up with Dean. He’s one of my good friends in the paddock and his speed speaks for itself, so he will be one of my biggest rivals come race day.'
Johnson has just completed testing in Spain with his GBMoto team while Harrison and Mar-Train have been taking part in the official Yamaha test at the Alcarras circuit in Lleida.
Both Mar-Train Yamaha riders will return to Northern Ireland to take part in further tests ahead of the North West 200, which takes place from May 10-16, just before the Isle of Man TT.
