i think i might retire riding for a little

My name is Bryan, I'm 18 and i think i'm the luckiest in the world. I've been riding for 15, miles in 2 years and i never thought that i would ever go down. Today a truck pulled in front of me, with no time to change direction I T- boned it doing 50 mph. I flew 23 feet over the bed and landed on my chest. In the two years i've been riding i've never worn shorts.......until today ( what it was ****in hot!) Anyway i went to the ER and they bullshitted with me for 5 hours and as it turns out i didn't break a single bone! I have the smallest bit of rash and a ****ed up wrist but thats it. I was gone from the wreck scene before my bike was towed but the tow truck driver apologized to my dad because he thought i was killed. My bike popped the trucks rear tire and smashed in the whole side of the bed. I don't have the money for a new bike and the cop said it was my fault because i was in the turning lane for more than 3 car lengths which i told him was bull . Anyway i learned a lesson today about riding. First i'm in a load of pain. Second, Even if you aren't speeding or ****in around. Happens

Good to hear a story with an ending that wasn't any worse. You should think about being in church tomorrow morning and give thanks, maybe someone is trying to get your attention or something.

I believe that there are no agnostics on 2 wheels when the brakes lockup.

I would suggest talking to an attorney to at least find out your options.

Glad you made it out alive

Glad you came out of this in relatively good health.

I'm also happy to hear your mature decision to take a break from riding. A crash can affect people in weird ways. I've seen it on the track a lot where a rider will crash and when he gets back out he has a tough time in that same spot for a long time. I even saw a rider crash becasue he was in the corner he crashed in before and fixated on the spot he crashed. The same could happen on the street but it could be an unexpected car movement that triggers your reaction. There is no way to predict what your reaction may be. Take your time and ride when you are ready to and not before.

Good luck with the legal side of this.

Man, the last time I locked up my front wheel I was too busy
1. cursing the lady who cut me off
2. cursing myself for riding on old tires
3. cursing!
to think of anything else!

Oh, and trying to let off the brakes enough but not too much.
I think AFTER the fact, I remember saying "thank you".

Regardless, there are few better feelings than not crashing when you know you probably should have. There are also few worse feelings than crashing. One feeling that would be worse would be crashing becasue of someone else!

I'm glad you made it out in almost perfect condition. You had some serious angels watching you that day. As for what the cop said, you need a lawyer. If you knew you weren't in that lane then get a subpoena for the scene. The accident is proof enough on what lane you were.
