Parked motorcycle sparks bomb scare

Police close road and keep residents indoors over motorcycle chained to railings

Parked motorcycle sparks bomb scare
The situation called for highly sophisticated bomb disposal techniques

POLICE in north London closed a road and kept residents in their homes after identifying a chained up motorcycle as a suspected bomb.

The false alarm began when officers discovered the motorcycle chained to railings outside West Hampstead police station and treated it as ‘suspect package’.

The road outside the station was closed for almost two hours and residents told to stay indoors during the bomb scare, while officers established who the bike belonged to.

A force spokesman said: ‘On Saturday, 21 February at 1922 hours, police discovered a motorbike chained to railings outside West Hampstead Police Station.

‘Road closures were put in place at Hillfield Road as the vehicle was treated as suspicious.

‘Checks were conducted and the registered keeper was identified. The vehicle was deemed non suspicious.

‘Road closures were lifted at 21:12 hours.’
