HOUSTON -- A motorcyclist's family witnessed a crash that killed him late Thursday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Houston police said the family was following the motorcyclist when he crashed his bike on the exit ramp from the South Loop to state Highway 288 at about 10 p.m.

Investigators said the rider was going too fast and lost control.

The man was wearing a helmet, officials said.

Why do they always note if the rider was wearing a helmet?

They are trying to prove that helmets don't protect you from death I guess... Too many helmet activist out there saying the contrary... Bikes are dangerous, period, that is what the salesmen should drill into the head of anyone looking to buy ANY KIND of motorcycle, including cruisers.

I really think that some salesmen couldn't care less about the safety of the rider or his skill level, when he's trying to make a sale. When I went to the suzi dealership in dickinson, they were all about rolling me out of there on a 750, even though I had no real experience. TxYamaha didn't seem have a whole lot of concern, as I had to keep reminding the guy that I didn't need an R1 because I was a noob.

I'm sure there are excections to this, I don't see Patrick looking at things that way.

I drove by a few minutes after the accident. I was riding with Chaos_Magic_Man and we drove right under the accident. Severa ploice cars, at least 2 ambulances, fire truck, and several cars on the side of the road. I didn't even think twice at the time that it might have been a rider.. There is a HUGE increasing trend in motorcycle fatalities in houston this year.. it's crazy! RIP to whoever was riding.
I have a friend that works at the chronicle, maybe I can get some info from her.
