06+ R6 OEM is 525.

***ps- definitely ran 520 front and rear on the 530 chain. So, anecdotal as it is, it worked to low 2:0x's at TWS (Texas World Speedway). Not promoting, just informing.

Also- thx for the oem spec correction. Kawi 600 and 1000s are 520, Hondas 525, and I would never imagine to see a 530 on an r6, particularly because the chain had been replaced.. By someone who was otherwise very knowledgable about bikes

Yea that attitude isn't really appreciated either. It was an unlikely turn of events, choices were made, and I have put forth the information. If you want to talk value let's go for a run down some curvy roads and see whose bike has more bang for the buck

Chains adhere to the rule of the 8ths principal. This means that a a 520 chain is 5/8 from pin to pin. The next two numbers are the width. 20 in this case means 2.0/8 or 1/4 inches wide. A 525 chain would be the same except with a width of 2.5/8 or 5/16th width.

So, in summary yes you can run a bigger chain (within reason), but it will affect the life of the chain and sprocket. With more play in width it also increases the chance to jump off as well. Personally, I wouldn't do it except in a post-apocalyptic where you have to do, what you have to do.

it works fine as long as you run a car tire on the rear
