i actually have taken the MSF basic rider course and passed with an almost perfect score. in my opinion there was nothing she could have done to avoid this accident other than go 30 mph through the turn. if you have ever taken this highway interchange then im sure you know that it doesnt slope upwards but rather as she was exiting the turn and going from inside to outside that she hit some gravel.

once again you can ask her to see she what remembers, because all this information is what i could gather from being 3 bikes back.

and calling me a squid i think is a bit immature. i dont have 30 yrs experience, but i do know how to ride and ride with safety/caution when needed, even if that means being left behind by the rest of the group.

Its really easy to get your license then, just go to the DPS office, its like 10 bucks. Sure beats a big ticket for not having one.

What's wrong with going 30 mph through that turn when you have low visibility and houston street debris to contend with? That was the whole point of my post. You don't have to go through it at 70 under those conditions.

If any of you guys would have gotten killed, going 30 (or whatever the road conditions dictated) wouldn't sound so bad now would it? I appreciate punching through a corner just as much as the next rider, but you have to ask yourself "Is that 40 mph difference on that curve, at night, knowing what Houston roads can be like, sooo important that you're willing to take a chance on wrecking?" That's the kind of thinking you have to develop to enjoy/survive the street. You can manage risk better.

I'm not saying it was unavoidable. H*ll I fell over in gravel once going 5 mph, but the damage was minimal because I had reduced my risk. I'm just pointing this out so people will think more when riding the streets and we can have less "rider down" threads.

I'm glad you passed with a near perfect score. I'm very sincere in that. But riding without a license is squidly. Me saying that IS mature.

You're so close to being legal. Just finish it. And remember, completing the MSF course doesn't mean the learning should stop.

70mph+ in a 45mph zone...

...a curve, at night... hit gravel, and you don't think that maybe the speed was a bit hot for the conditions?

I think that's just a recommended speed, but I may be wrong.
