If it's truly just mis-placed, it's inexpensive to go to the DMV and file for a lost title, under $15 if I remember correctly. If that's the story he's sticking to, I wouldn't agree to buy it until he has a replacement title in-hand.

Jae is exactly right. Last time i had to do this for a vehicle it can be done by mail with expedited (over night) turn around.

I chose to do it without expedition and it cost $2.00 for the certified copy of title, send in the form for certified copy along with $2.00 and copy of TXDL

If it's that easy to get why are there so many bikes without title? Other than the obvious answer "it's stolen"

people buy with no title and then sell with no title. Most dont know what a lost title means or that the original documented owner is the one who can file for a lost title.
