Sepang MotoGP test times day two

Lorenzo finishes day two with a lap time under two minutes

Sepang MotoGP test times day two

JORGE Lorenzo finished fastest on day two of the Sepang test with a time of 1:59.963 marginally quicker than Marc Marquez's time set on day one.

The Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team tested new components and electronic settings to help improve tyre life over race distance, Lorenzo increased his time from day one by over half a second whereas Rossi finished marginally slower than yesterday and down in sixth.

Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso set his best time on his sixth of 54 laps completed on-board the GP14.3 and finished second quickest with a time 0.247s faster than Marquez’s 2:00.262 time set yesterday.

Andrea Iannone finished in fifth place on the same machine as Dovizioso and went over a second quicker than on day one.

The Repsol Honda Team set out to refine the set-up of Marquez’s two RC213V machines whereas on the other side of the garage, they were working with three versions of the RC213V with Pedrosa who finished the day in fourth.

Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Pol Espargaro crashed at Turn 9 at the end of the session, but fortunately was unhurt. Espargaro finished seventh after working on two chassis variations. Espargaro’s team-mate Bradley Smith, who is suffering from ankle pain sustained from a training incident, finished ninth.

CWM LCR Honda set to work on day two with Cal Crutchlow concentrating on rear stability on corner entry and attempting to reduce chattering. Weight distribution and engine braking with the RC213V were also adjusted and Crutchlow finished 1.095s behind Lorenzo.

Stefan Bradl once again finished as top Open rider in 11th place for the NGM Forward Racing team. They continued to tweak setting and understand the new Open electronics package more thoroughly. However, the team are still using a 2013 Yamaha engine as the new engine isn’t due to be delivered unti just before the first race of the year.

Aprilia Racing Gresini finished down in 17th place with their rider Alvaro Bautista. The Spaniard said the current 2015 frame design was too rigid and not performing in harmony with the electronics and has therefore elected to ride the 2014 version with the evolving pneumatic valve engine.

The welcomed return of the Suzuki Team saw them focus on chassis development with Aleix Espargaro where he improved by around a second to finish tenth. Rookie and team-mate Maverick Vinales completed 56-laps working on understanding how to ride a MotoGP bike to its limit on used tyres. Again, the rookie improved by over a second from his first day at Sepang.
