Hard to believe he was going 50mph.
I crashed in my full gear while I was racing minibike around 20mph.
If I didn't have my helmet, I wouldn't have just minor road rash, a fractured bone in eye socket, a busted blood vessel in eye and some road rash on forehead like he did.
I know 30mph is fast enough to get major head injury without a helmet (or even can kill you).

Either way.
Glad he didn't get hurt too bad.
Hope he learned his lesson as well.

i had a friend when i was in california buy my ninja 600, he wanted to take it around the block without a helmet after he gave me the check. I insisted that he wear the helmet. he crashed on the first curve he came to and there was a huge gash across the faceshield of the helmet where it hit the curb. that would have been his nose. just kinda related so i wanted to throw my 2 cents in

Nah, :laughing6 I wouldn't wear my helmet after a crash either, as you all said, the shell is an important part.

surrender

I was merely thinking that the guy may be able to wear that helmet until he has money or whatever his excuse is to buy a new one. Better that one than no helmet again now.

I'd rather ride and be a little (or lot) sweaty than rashed up!

Yea he def. got lucky only having the injuries he did. I think he realizes how fortunate he was to come out as good as he did crashing in a turn at 50mph onto concrete. Unfortunately this is what it takes sometimes for people to wise up.

I agree and he is trying to lose wait so I told him just think the more you sweat the more calories you burn.

I was talking with the state troopers that were the accident was on Crab River Rd. I had spoken with the majority of them a few times (nice guys) and they tell me that wearing a helmet is really important (few ride too). One of them said that a few months prior a guy in Katy was wasted and wanted to do wheelies. So he went outside with no helmet and when he had it up he fell back and off the bike. Unfortunately, his head was splattered all the street in front of his house. :eh: That really disturbs me.

When I was taking the MSF class my instructor told us about a Houston couple who drug a footboard when turning the corner into the neighborhood. They were going 5 to 10 mph with no helmets. They laid the bike down and lady passenger died from hitting her head on the pavement. It doesn't take much if you hit right.

Your friend was lucky.
