Probably not master criminals

Tip close van doors before driving off with a stolen bike

Probably not master criminals

BUNGLING thieves let a motorcycle fall out of a van as they made their getaway without shutting the doors.

The thieves were recorded on CCTV as they loaded a 301kg Triumph Trophy into their van then dumped it back onto the victim’s drive as they left.

Police have released a picture of the van, which they say had ‘M Tomlinson’ written on the side.

The botched theft took place on December 28 in Liversedge, West Yorkshire.

An appeal from West Yorkshire Police said: 'Between 9pm and 10.10pm on Sunday, 28 December, 2014, a white van (pictured in the background of the CCTV images) has parked up outside a property in Halifax Road. The occupant or occupants of the van have stolen a Triumph Trophy motorcycle, placing it in the van via the side door. As they have driven away, the motorbike has fallen from the van. They have left the damaged motorbike at the scene.'

PC Chris Birkenshaw said: 'The van used in this incident was quite distinctive with writing on the side panel which we believe reads "M Tomlinson". The motorcycle was damaged but has been returned to its owner.'

Anyone with information about the theft or van is asked to contact Batley and Spen Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101.
