Smile Very New!

Hello everyone,

My name is Cameron and I just moved to Houston last night. I also just got my motorcycle license and my Yamaha R6 yesterday so I am very new to riding and new to Houston! I am a Marine veteran, served for 8 years on active duty and I am interested in finding fellow riders! I am currently a full time student at UH studying business. Please feel free to contact me!

Welcome to Houston and riding in it. Your combat experience will help you cope with our drivers and, unless you're a Hollywood Marine, keep you sane on the way to your destination.

In all seriousness though, welcome! Where were you stationed?

Except an Apache helicopter. An Apache helicopter has machine guns AND missiles. It is an unbelievably impressive complement of weaponry, an absolute death machine.

A fellow rider and veteran told me about it today at UH. His name is Joe, but I don't know his username on here yet.

So far I have handled these roads pretty well for a newbie I think. I was stationed at Pendleton and Okinawa, plus I went to Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, Phillippines, and Indonesia for various deployments/operations.

Welcome and thanks for serving, keep an eye out for meets in your area or close by and stop by. That's the best way to get involved in the community. Also look for weekend rides that say "noob-friendly" to join in on.

Great business school at UH. Cute chicks over there, too. As a UH alum I will tell you one thing... Get everything important in writing and/or make copies. If I had a dollar for every time UH lost a very important document of mine, they practically would have been paying me.

Welcome to the forum!
Gear the up and let's ride.
If you need gear there is a place here that you can get lots of things for free...
http://www.motohouston.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=216439

Here is the advise to you:
To go right push on the right bar, to go left push the on left bar. This called counter steering and you learned how to do it when you learned how to ride a bicycle. Use your front brake mainly and use the rear brake lightly. Look where want to go, not where you are going. Always look far ahead and when in traffic behind a car, ride to one side of then lane or the other so you look around the car and see whats going on up ahead. Take your advice from riders who have been riding a long time, the older/wiser the better.

You will crash eventually so get geared up. And remember this, there two kinds of motorcycle riders. Those who have crashed and those that are going to.

There are old riders and there are bold riders but there are no old and bold riders.

Thank you everyone for the welcome and the advice! I am definitely geared up for safety as well! I am also looking for some part time jobs in the area, so if anyone needs a hard worker please let me know in a message.
