You know right after I made that statement I remembered riding with you a few times. Guess it got to me the way you started in this thread Just read the whole thing over again and your posts didn't warrant such a harsh reaction from me, guess I just woke up on wrong side of the bed or something.

I've been keeping up with this thread cause the light on my Magna SUXS. If I ride faster than 40 I'm over driving the headlight and that's as high as I can set it because the dam bright is already pointing at the moon. I also commute 30miles on the HW in the predawn hours w/2 dark stretches of freeway. So when the right moment comes around I'm gonna upgrade my lights. And that moment could be in this thread.

As far as blinding anyone else. I"m fairly courteous and respectful of people who aren't driving with there head up there , but those that are deserve a wake up flash, honk and the finger from time to time. I really don't worry to much about cagers seeing or not seeing me, because I rely on my abilities to be aware, anticipate, and be prepared take evasive action to stay away from them no matter what they are doing. The real reason I took an interested in this thread, is I want to be able to see the in the road that will take me out before its too late. I've already hit a 2X4 on 610, and a Mule Dear in New Mexico all due to limited visibility. Having long range unobstructed visibility on a MC makes for a totally relaxed ride.

Liberal! I'll leave the politics to a political thread.

Well, if it's any consolation, the liberal part was just let you know I've met you. What me the most is why the police and inspection haven't cracked down on the people that don't at least attempt to do it right. Most just run down the local flee market and buy the cheapest, highest K value HID and install them in their halogen housing blinding the out of everyone and not even lighting up the road any better than what they had. , most I've seen on the road haven't even educated themselves on what that "k" value is. It doesn't mean thousand, it means Kelvin. I represents the light spectrum the lamp is putting out. If you notice all these idiots with blue lights? Yep, bought the highest "k" rating they could find. Actually a nice white light is around 6500k but that's not what these asshats are after.
In your instance, they make an aftermarket LED kit that just drops into your housing that already has the correct lenses that puts the light on the street and not in the air. They are kind of expensive but they'd fix your problem without burning out the retinas of everyone on the road.

LED's require a certain housing too. The problem here is he's not matching the housing with the proper lamp.

I call bullshit. There isn't a halogen housing made that is "hid friendly". I'd like to also mention the fact that it's illegal to put those ghetto lights in a halogen housing, shield or not..

Besides, the shield isn't the problem, it's the reflector.

Haven't ever run across it. Do you know who makes it? I've kind of figured someone would since the headlight assembly on the Magna is a typical old style chrome teardrop housing which mounts on the lower triple tree bracket.

And yea I can agree with what others are saying about some stock housings being flawed. Mine puts out plenty of light. It just throws way to much light off to the sides and not in front of my direction of travel.

glare fix

The LED op posted have a shield to address that issue. Plus it does not have LED in the front like some other design.
Every single housing I've ever seen has that "Shield" so that's irrelevant. Well not the old style glass lenses with the bulb enclosed. But even those are frosted or textured if you will so the light isn't blinding.

That HID is why you are complaining. But I dont see what the fuss is about on the OP's LED... Other than it is just maybe brighter...
The "shield" at the tip of the halogen bulb just keeps the eye from looking at the filament directly. It doesn't do much to reduce glared caused by misaligned light bounced where it shouldn't be.

What you should be looking at is the position of the HID plasma "ball" relative to the mounting base. If this distance is the same as that of the halogen bulb it repaces, then the point light source will be in alignment with the reflector/projector system. You will likely have good performance without blinding oncoming traffic.

Yeah and those aren't "blinding" at all...

I mean, it's called a "day maker" for christ's sake.
