I would never talk bad about the Phantom but you can build one with carbon frame, better motors/esc, all the features the phantom has for way cheaper. Take a look at the Blade 350 QX3 AP or the new Q500 Typhoon.

I may not be able to resist bying the typhoon with all the features. It even has the follow feature for the same price as the Phantom..

Or how about the iris for $750. I've been waiting for the price to come down on this thing. This thing is badass!

Picked up a CL Blade 350 this AM.
4 Batteries, bunch of props, Spektrum DX5e.
Had to go buy a charger, this is where the frustration begins.

Had to make a stop at work to do something. Start charging a battery.

Got one battery charged. Plugged it in, tuned on the Tx, turned on the 350.

3 hours later, all the batteries are charged and the thing wont fly

click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, all kinds of lights, things blinking the whole shabang. RTFM, RTFM again.......flip this, flip that, move this toggle, that toggle, click, click, click, click, click, click

thing wont do but stare at me like the last chic I asked to show me her .

I finally called myself a dumbass old man and tucked tail and headed up the the local RC shop to see if the pimple faced can teach an old dog new tricks. I am a disappoint!!!

Walk in with this $500 toy, TX, hanging my head. Raised it up like a Knight offering the King his sword. Much to my surprise, the 20 something RC kid was cool as as I proclaimed my failure at reading the manual, and online posts.

Kid flips this, flips that, toggles this, toggles that......right to my favorite stare from this 4 armed non-whirrly bird.
He does what I tried, binding the TX, adjusting the trims(switcy thingies), trys to arm it. NADA! He is a failure too.....I just smile realizing I might be a somewhat cool "old guy".

This is the "king" of all the workers, he knows his and they all are gathered around watching the master get stumped.

"might be the onboard GPS", he thinks out loud. Let me flip this, push this.....WAIT! Was that a second beep?
I have no clue WTF he is talking about. About three minutes later, he finally gets the thing motivated to move air.

He explains to me some in German, that I sort of comprehended.
TO arm this thing (get it to react to the controls), you have to reset the throttle trim to center, because it resets to zero every time you turn it off. The NIB 350s come with a DX4, they sell and really push a DX6 (which is pretty badass), a DX9, DX7 and DX18..... They have not dealt with a DX5e. He was pretty stoked I challenged his skills and knowledge, so I bought a new pair of props.

Now I know how to get this to fly, I just need to practice.

OH, if you buy one of these things, go to Remote Control Hobbies. The one I went to is over in Cypress on Barker-Cypress. Great bunch of kids in there, and that is hard to say in this day and age. Oh, one more thing, if you try to fly it in the house, DONT, I repeat DO NOT grab that while the blades are spinning.

good looord!

Finally got a chance to fly it on Sunday.......did not end well.

About 10 minutes into doing a sys check, the sumbitch would drop about 4-6' per second when yawing. Third try and using my diagnostics skills, before i could lay pattern to the issue, it landed hard and flipped over.

When to rearm it, and got some weird error beeps and lights

back to the house.

Investigating the issue, it was a speed controller went up. Well, ok, happens, and maybe this is why it was having a hard time when yawing.

Anyways,I break out the tools to remove the body, 3000 1.5mm screws later I am trying to seperate the top half from the bottom half. Break out the magnifying glass to see super glue on the seams! What dumbass superglues the two halves?

Now I need and ESC AND a body.

Not sure If I am going back to a stock shell or a better frame.....
