before I tried I would start by becoming an AMA (amer. modelers assoc.) member. For $50+ a yr you get 2 mil worth of liability ins. incase you crash into something valuable.

Then I'd go talk to them and show them what you intend on doing.

I've thought about taking mine and doing the same just haven't been to the track, lately.

a little thread jacking here, but I have been looking at purchasing a drone for my camera. What do you all recommend for a starter drone that won't break the bank?

$40 is a cheap learn.

You're right. I was thinking he was wanting to do some Arial stuff. I learned on the QX 180 and it has a camera that comes with it. It's a fun little quad.

Yes I would definitely start with a smaller one. One that is small enough to play with indoors. You will get a lot more flight time and learn a lot faster that away.
I recommend the blade qx180 or the nano qx. The nano starts at $89 with controller.

As far as getting one that can fly outside and be a good camera platform. Get one of the cheap ones that we spoke of to learn and let the prices come down on the bigger more complex ones. The technology used in them (especially where the cameras are concerned) is rapidly getting better and the prices for it is rapidly coming down.

I'd what until you can afford a system that has the feature of FPV (first person view) W/head tracking. That is the, you wear a pair of googles that show in real time what the camera is seeing. And when you turn your head the camera turns with you. right now quads with this feature start in the $1000 range. So you can keep the drone flying straight while filming anything that you can keep up with. They just came out with a nano qx w/stationary camera and FPV googles for under $500, but give it a few months.

They have some (one) that follows YOU as you ride......100+ mph.....and a price tag that is as near to the price of the bike. Badass all the same.

I am looking at a $500 setup for now....that is with a controller/transmitter.

If I get good with that, I will invest in the one that chases ME around

I'm in the middle of building a sky-hero platform . You can buy it with motor, esc, naza v2 with GPS module for $650. It's a really nice platform to start with. I looked into apm 2.6 instead of naza but I'm afraid apm would be over my head for my first build.

I called and talked to them. Pretty much anything you can imagine going wrong appears to be against their rules. If you do not follow their rules they will not pay. So pretty much nothing you would need coverage for with a drone is covered. The rules are listed in the AMA site

Its not realistic to think this way. Think more along the lines of hovering the inside of corners and such. Several pieces of corner vids and over heads from fly bys around the track would edits together to make vids you cant get any other way

I'd defently wait till they work all the bugs out of the airdog before I'd buy one. Either way that's a bad price for the technology.

unless you are selling the footage I don't think you have much to worry about long as the thing dosn't end up laying in the track and your not trying to sell riders the video.

If you want to sell it then I suggest working with the track day org before hand.

But really the track owner is going to have the final call (scott at msrh)

350 QX 1,2,or 3? Reason why I ask is because the 350 QX (origional) came with a bad batch of blades ( A blades). Make sure you ask the guy if the "B blades" come with it. The "A blades" were coming apart on people...

ahahaha

I usually like all the riders, but sometimes the corner workers me off.

Anyway, looks like your clear for fastline as long as MSR control (Scott) gives it the thumbs up.
