Navasota tops Argyle 42-35 in double overtime to win 4A D-I state title

The Navasota Rattlers are state champions once again after a 42-35 double overtime victory against Argyle on Friday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Navasota went ahead 42-35 in the second overtime on a touchdown reception by Tren'Davian Dickson - his fourth touchdown of the game.

Argyle's offense was unable to score on its possession, giving the Rattlers the state crown.

Argyle struck first in overtime on a 7-yard touchdown run by Nick Ralson. The extra point made it 35-28.

Tren'Davion Dickson bailed out the Rattlers on a fourth-down conversion and the game-tying touchdown to force the second overtime.

Navasota tied the game at 28 with 59 seconds left in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Shelton Eppler.

Argyle started the ensuing possession on its 25-yard-line.

It is the second state championship in three years for Navasota.
