Do you entertain that both sides of this arguement are subject to question or do you just shat on the idea that it could be a hoax?

Let me give some perspective before you answer by starting with a question....
Do you think it is more beneficial to Exxon for there to be EPA restrictions on fuels or would they benefit more if the Global Warming situation was a scam and they get to loosen the reigns a little? (Just using Exxon since you did but, if we are going to refer to them then maybe we should refer to the company as they exist now... ExxonMobil.)

wouldn't you want to get your scientific articles from somewhere where they provide you with an author?
if the person who wrote this was an environmnetal scientist, my guess would be that they would have made it known.

now that i've read it, all it's really saying is that solar radiation affects the temperature. that's nothing new. they aren't debunking the "theory" that CO2 may be a large factor in earth's global warming, but showing a correlation on another planet between planet temp and the sun.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milankovitch_cycles
if you really find factors affecting planetary climates, here's another one dealing with the tilt of the earth's axis and a correlation to climate change.
but it still doesn't debunk global warming, just like this last article.

but don't tell that to the person who posted this..

Not trying to "de-bunk" global warming ... but at least I've gotten you to agree that there are other factors involved than just Human CO2 production. If studies by planetary astronomers are showing that both Mars and Neptune's planetary temperatures are in fact increasing, doesn't that also at least shed some light onto perhaps why our planet's temperature is also increasing?

You speak of Hammel & Lockwood not being environmentalists ... last I heard there weren't any environmentalists on Mars or Neptune, so perhaps you've got a point there.

Here's another article... unfortunately one wasn't written by Environmenalists either...

http://www.space.com/scienceastronom...ng_021009.html

Don't get me wrong .. I fully agree that as humans, we are a contributing factor to our planet's climate changes ... but taking into all the historical climate changes of the millions of years ... I simply cannot see this one as anything more than an extension of that previously established cycle. To fall headlong into the hysteria fueled by out of touch politicians and movie stars ... just seems like silliness to me.

Oh, I'll do my part ... I recycle ... I commute with a vehicle that gets 60mpg ... my electricity provider is Green Mountain and I'm a member of the Sierra Club ... but I'm also an engineer ... trained to think and look at the world through the lenses of the scientific method ... this whole "Global Warming" thing has become a religion and to even dare oppose it appears to be a folly on a scale only Galileo would understand.

They referenced Hemmel and Lockwood, I was talking about who Wrote the article.

I'm not falling into any sort of hysteria. I just took Geology last semester, and I'm still somewhat vaguely familiar with the principles behind it, and my teacher(probably an idiot, right) told me there's a concensus that CO2 is harmful to the atmosphere, the question is how much, and he leaned towards the Al Gore crowd. I think the problem isn't just people jumping on with the Al Gore crowd, but also the O Reilly crowd, and the crowd out pumping propaganda.
I'd like to see a Real scientific article discussing the effect of CO2 on the atmosphere, not historical trends, or other climate factors of the earth. It seems reasonable to me that scientists should be able to measure the damage CO2 can do and then evaluate that on a global scale.

I think we're more out of touch than Al Gore when it comes to the environment

The problem is that things that these things are long term affects, and requires much speculation and inference from historical data. You could probably come up with localized short term models, but global affects over decades and even millenia are things that can only be speculated on.

My issue with this debate is that it's become so political that people can't even publically air out opinions with out some sort of backlash

more "opinions" and "observations" by "scientists" to fuel the fire.
