Report: University of Houston to hire Tom Herman as head football coach

The University of Houston has reportedly hired its new head football coach.

Ohio State quarterbacks coach Tom Herman will be the 14th head coach at U of H, according to and other published media reports. The university has not yet released any confirmation.

The Cougars went 7-5 under Tony Levine, who was relieved of duty last week. Defensive coordinator David Gibbs will serve as the program's interim head coach until a replacement is hired.

Houston is slated to face Pittsburgh in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl on Jan. 2 in Fort Worth.
