Lost a co-worker

Just met this guy a few weeks ago, rode in from New Caney/Cleveland area every day to Greenway Plaza. Always seen him in the morning parking his bike.

They just sent out a company wide email that he had passed away this weekend.

RIP Greg,

Dang! RIP.

From the pictures the crash didn't look that bad. Might have walked away if he was wearing a lid.

To each their own.

RIP -

I usually never comment on RIO threads. I've already lost too many friends to bike crashes, but I want to comment about the helmet thing.

There is nothing to lead us to believe the lack of a lid had anything to do with it. Two of my friends died without helmets and it had nothing to do with it. The other friend was cut in half at the waste while I watch his eyes go into the dead stare inside the helmet that didn't have a scratch.

Understand what I'm saying - the media mentions the helmet and right off we have 2 of the first replies to the thread saying the helmet would have saved him. From this article, we actaully have no idea how he died unless someone else had private information.

It's a media attempt to skew the perseption of this wasted death on an agenda. I wear a helmet, but not if I'm going to Wal China a mile away. I just don't want this to be the media taking advantge of a lost life to mis-lead people. I like to wear my helmet, it's really cool looking, and yes- I trust it to keep my pumpkin seeds inside the pumpkin, but I don't want it to be a law that "forces" me to wear it.

Wearing a helmet is more about reducing risk than guaranteeing safety. The more disturbing thing to me is that they immediately setup a fund for funeral expenses and solicited donations on the facebook page... My question is; Did he have insurance?
If not, then the idea of riding a bike, without a helmet, with a family, without insurance, is a very very poor choice... Why would anyone do that to their loved ones.
I really hope he did have insurance to cover his final expenses and give his family some cushion so they can get on with their lives after such a major loss.

Thoughts and prayers to the family.

"According to Trooper Benson with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Fox was taking a curve southbound on Old Houston while a 2004 Ford F-250 pickup was northbound on Old Houston. Fox, who was traveling at an unsafe speed, took the curve, entered the northbound lane, and stuck the pickup driven by David Hubbard, 28, of Splendora."

Unsafe speed for what? The conditions, weather, road surface, visibility what? The post speed limits in corners are there so that a vehicle traveling around that radius of the curve at that constant speed would maintain 1G of lateral force, it has nothing to do with safety.

Likewise I have been driving for over 25 years and in all that time I have found the cagers are 10x more likely to cross the double yellow. I'm not accusing anyone of anything, I just hate how people tend to spin it as though the biker is ALWAYS going at an "unsafe speed".

Back in the early 1800s it was a known fact that the human body cannot survive traveling at speeds over 35 mph.

pretty sure you hit a truck almost head on without a helmet then bounce off the ground a few times a helmet would have helped.

The numerous crashes Ive seen the helmet 90% of the time has some pretty major damage, I couldnt imagine what the head would look like if they hadnt had one on at the time. surely they would never made it back on a bike if they even lived.

Got any explanation on why the article didn't mention head trama? Just wondering. He was unconcious. May have had a collapsed lung or internal bleeding leading to lack of blood and O2 to the brain, which is what happed to my pa and he was doing 70 w/o a brain bucket.

2 years ago my cow-orker broad sided a mini van at over 100 driving the fool on his Busa. He had a helmet, he's gone. His coconut came right off the tree and flew through both windows. Still in the helmet. Yuk! High quality chin strap though.

Are any more details coming out about this crash?

Looks like he more-or-less bounced off the side of the lifted truck.
