lane splitting law

Anyone have any news on this? I know the proposed law was voted down last year, but it was supposed to be introduced again this year. The session is almost over, and I have not heard anything about it. Any info is greatly appreciated.

The cop I live with tells me lane splitting is legal but not safe nor appreciated... Plus traffic has to be in gridlock AKA not moving PERIOD. This does not apply to rush hour, but to another evacuation to San Antonio where people are sitting in the road for a day. Don't do it in rush hour, and ride inside a lane not on the line, if you pass the line you can be ticketed for an illegal lane change.
P.S. Riding the shoulder is dumb, unsafe, and illegal.

Folks BS aside I was a PO for 16 years it been a while but during that time I saw no specific law allowing or preventing lane splitting in Texas. Unless there is a municipal law against it anyone who does try to enforce it does so under the color of the Failure to Yield Right of Way or Reckless Driving laws and or or case law. I never enforced it because none of the law covering it was clear.

The guy I live with is a current cop, he told me that they have a specific class that is taught about the laws of motorcycles vs cars. The instructor started by talking about lane splitting. He said "Is lane splitting legal?" and 90% of the class said no, he promptly corrected them and explained when it is legal and when it is illegal because it endangers the lives of others.

Clayton you can't outrun a ghetto bird or the radio waves. Best advice is give them no reason to f*ck with you because they are looking for one already.

I believe theres a buried section in the code which refers two to vehicles sharing lane. Safer to say it is neither legal or illegal.

If memory servers, There's no law stating that white-lining is allowed, there are some that imply that it's not. DPS/Motorcycle safety current 'stance' is that it is a nono.

Good point, but some cops are just d!cks, yah know. I'm not defending them, I live with one of the few cool ones. I'm just relaying what I was told when I asked him about lane splitting.

I got arrested for evading once and I didn't even know I was evading, that cop was a d!ck and they trashed my car in impound plus charged me an arm and a leg to get it out.

I call it BS right there! The laws in Texas apply equally to Motor Vehicles whether they have 2 wheels or 4, there is no difference in the eyes of the law. By the time you finish the academy if you are worth your salt you have read every line in the Texas Penal Code, Texas Motor Vehicle code, and Vernon's Civil Statues. There are no laws other than the little inspection and plate differences that differentiate between numbers of wheels. That's where case law comes in. Case law is not the law as it is written, but the law as it is enforced by the court and it can change daily.

Some of them are too lazy to d!ck around with minor junk too especially inside the city of Houston, but if they want to they can. I was told the paperwork is not worth it, and they have murders and drug dealers to get off the streets.
