2015 Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR & 1100 Factory | EICMA FIRST LOOK

Nobody has ever, ever said that Aprilia’s thunderous Tuono V4 needed more power. And yet Aprilia has opted to punch out the 999cc V-4 to 1,077cc via a bore increase of 3mm, from 78mm to 81mm. That alone is said to add 8 hp and 6 pound-feet of torque to the new bike’s peak output. Further down the rev range, however, Aprilia says the new 1100 makes as much as 20 horsepower more than the 2014 machine. Dizzam!

Other engine changes include smaller wrist pins and Pankl con-rods said to weigh 400 grams less. Presumably, these are the same parts that are used in the 2015 RSV4 RR and RF. The rest of the Tuono’s engine remain the same as before.

It’s not just about power, though. The new bike has a revised chassis, with a more aggressive head angle (steepened from 25.1 degrees to 24.7) and less trail (shortened from 107.4mm to 99.7mm) for even quicker handling. The aluminum swingarm was lengthened by 6mm, and suspension settings were changed to suit the new chassis setup.

Other changes include a revised upper fairing and headlight, now with LED running lights.

As with the RSV4, Aprilia is offering the new big-bore Tuono in two trim levels: RR and Factory. The Factory version gets an Öhlins fork, shock, and steering damper, as well as aluminum front brake disc carriers and a fat, 200/55 rear tire. The bike also has an RSV4-inspired tail and comes with unique paint.

Both models of the new Tuono V4 1100 will be available in US dealerships in May. Pricing has not yet been established.
