I know it's not cool, but the bus is a lot safer. I commute on my bike most days, so I know the dangers, especially if you're riding through intersections.

Welcome,
IMO I would not feel save on the freeway with less than a 600CC. 600's are a great start bike, very forgiven and with lost of power to get away from those crazy situations you will find your self in...
Now if you were thinking to start a hobby with a dedicated track bike that's what I would start with, a 300.

I ride the frwys w a 125, sketchy yes, but it's doable. A 250 is plenty sufficient, been there done that too.

Hopefully you are advising a 600 like an FZ6 or a Kawi/Suzuki 650. I don't know about a new young guy starting on a 600 super sport as his first bike, particularly when he is already thinking a Kawi 300.

600 super sport wouldn't be at the top of my recommendation list. Get a 250/300/650 and ride it for 6 months or more. Then make a decision to upgrade. Things happen very fast on a 600ss for a new rider. I see very little practical difference between recommending a 600 ss and a full liter bike on the street. Practically speaking they are very close at public road speeds.

Great choice. I'd recommend a used one as well if you are open to it.

You may possibly want to look for a Ninja 500r as well for consideration. Older bike, but easy to ride and very capable at highway speeds if needed. You can get them used and in great shape for around. 2000. Very easy to ride for new riders and still fun as you get faster.

Get good training and buy good gear please.

Good luck and welcome.
