Take the bill of sale and the title to your county tax office

Do you mean without the seller's signature on the title?
If you register in person they should had you a plate then and there.

Yes, the application for texas title has to be filled out and signed along with the title in order to register the vehicle. (I'm not endorsing this action, but) I've known people to fill out/sign the seller's info and name on the application when it had to be redone (title was filled out and signed correctly) and they could not get ahold of the seller.

Once you have the SIGNED application and title, turn them in at the tax office. You will then have to pay tax on the purchase as well as your registration fee, and they will give you a registration receipt and plate.

Do you have the guys number? If so tell him you forgot to fill out the title transfer app and needs his siggy, then ask if you can sign for him. If he says yes, which he should, sign it and get your new plates. If you don't have his number, sign it, and go get your plates.

This is exactly what I do not officially recommend. Though technically, if you have his permission to sign his name, it's not forgery. One might go so far as to assume that if he signed the title over to you that he basically already gave permission for you to do what is required to get the bike in your name.

As far as temporary tags, you have 20 business days (4 weeks) to get the title transferred into your name before being penalized. If the registration is currently out-of-date, it's up to you whether to pay the ~$25 for temp tags or risk getting a ticket that will cost you $5-10 to have dismissed once you get the registration receipt. If the old registration is current, I wouldn't hesitate to just ride it around for a couple of weeks until you get it taken care of.

As long as it was a legit sale just fill out the paper yourself. When I did my last title swap the lady at the DPS had me fill out the sellers information right then and there.

I've done it a few times. It's no big deal. If you can let the seller know to ease your mind, I'd do that too.

Also I have called a seller and recorded them giving me permission to sign for them and had them say their full name address telephone number and dl number in case I had a issue, or I think they have a affidavit that you can take and notarized with statement of facts and you can't contact seller or find them. Then turn in with title and register

Good luck it's a with out everything signed or seller present

It kind of is like a shoot depending on what government worker you get at your window. I've seen it go ok and I've seen it be total bullshit while waiting in their efficient line.

The tax assessor on the other side of the tracks are actually pretty helpful.

You will need the form 130-U filled out and signed by both parties. If you wait and do it after 30 days from the date sign on the title you have extra fees.
