I went down yesterday

Went down on the beltway in Pasadena, had all my gear on except gloves. Traffic was at a stop when I came across the overpbutt and had to choose between the back of a panel van or dumpin it. Wound up breaking my clavicle spraining my knee and a little road rash on top of my hands. All in all feel kinda lucky except now I'm outta work for a few weeks

Sucks, glad you're Ok.
Gloves are the number one piece of gear imho. No matter what kind of work you do, you need your hands.
Even a 5 mph dump in a parking lot, the first thing you're gonna do is put your hands out to stop your fall.
Tear em up, ya can't work for a while.

It's best to ride near the lane line so you can split traffic if you have to

Glad you are mostly okay. Can't tell from your description if the other driver was clearly at fault. If that's the case, unless this is a high speed crash, you're better off at least making contact with the other vehicle. Otherwise, even if the other driver is at fault, you won't have much of a case.

Obviously it's a split second decision and you probably didn't have time to think. Just for your future reference.

It was definetly my fault I was trying slow down to fast in the shoulder to keep from flipping over the front and the front washed out on me in some gravel or something

From your description it would have been better if you were at least able to react to split. Biggest mistake in commuting when you are straight up in the middle of the lane. Lesson learned
