Of course they are fudging. Look at that one light I mentioned. 7500 tickets in a month. That's over 550,000 dollars. Of course HPD wants them back.

How many times have you been rear-ended? I have been hit head-on and rear-ended more times than I care to count. Based on those experiences, if I have a choice... (obviously I don't) I would pick being rear-ended FAR FAR above all other directions of being hit. A vehicle is least protective of the occupants in a broadside.

I count my blessings I have not being T-boned.

I dunno dude it was over five years ago. It was one or the other and 550 million in a month seemed way high, so Im thinking it was 7500 cut me some slack. I remember it was a shitload of people. Huge class action deal.

Doesn't matter I'd rather not be involved in an accident at all and a slightly higher risk of a T bone crash(which is relatively rare anyways) is a of a lot better than a massive increase in risk of being rear ended, especially on a motorcycle.

Im sure being struck by lightning sucks pretty bad. Would you trade off a 25% increase in risk of being struck by lightening for an 800% increase in risk of being rear ended? Didn't think so.

What Im saying is that the cameras only reduce extremely rare ttpes of crashes and massively increases the ALREADY much more common rear end crashes.

Let's say one intersection has 5 T bone crashes and 50 rear end crashes in 6 months. Does it make sense to reduce the number of T bones by 25%(1) in exchange for increasing rear end collisions by 800%(400)?

Shel, you can pull all the numbers you want out of... wherever. I would gladly take all the rear-ended accidents I've suffered - none my fault and none with anything close to life-threatening injuries - over getting creamed ONCE by a pickup like that video.

Heck, I would even go so far as to say that about all the head-ons I got hit. Crumple zones, seat belts, and airbags do wonders in a head-on.

In a side swipe... good freakin' luck!

Touche, the only links I've seen you pro camera guys post is bit's and pieces of a study picked out by an organization that stands to profit from more cameras, which, by the way is where I got my 25% figure.
The percentage I don't see them show from the studies, is how many MORE rear end collisions they can cause. They admitted it was higher, but never gave a percent.

someone else on one of the first pages said 800%, which wouldn't surprise me. can't tell you how many times I slammed on the brakes when we had cameras as opposed to just going through the intersection on a yellow light.

Did you ever get rear ended at an intersection with a red-light camera?

That pick up video was a freak accident. It is highly unlikely you would ever be involved in anything near as bad. A 25% increase on an already extremely rare accident still isn't much.
An 800% increase in an already common type of accident put's you in serious risk of that happening to you, multiple times even. It also increases the risk of a normally minor accident becoming serious/fatal, since it is happening more often.

Getting rear ended multiple times, a bunch of tickets because you got stuck behind a truck in an intersection, having to hire an attorney/appear in court because they have some freaking automated camera that has no judgement...meanwhile the state is making million off your major inconvenience...to with that man, why don't you just move to Russia where you can wait in line and hope your government does the right thing to "protect" you.

no cameras puts you at the mercy of some extremely rare, random idiot who full on runs a light that's been red for a while. Cameras put you at the mercy of some screwed up system that causes every driver, not just some drunken idiot, person passed out, ect. to risk hitting you....I'll take the much more rre risk any day.

Are you telling me that the light never turned yellow at the last minute and you made a judgment call to keep going as opposed to slamming on your brakes when a car was right behind you?
You do realize that's the reason why the light turns yellow, right? To keep people from slamming on their brakes. I'm sure on more than one occasion you mistimed it and the light turned red before you were out of the intersection. If you say you haven't, again you are either full of it or just started driving.

Based on what most of you guys have posted, your driving record is a of a lot dirtier than mine.

Before you guys bash my driving, take a look at your own. The only ticket I have ever gotten was from that rigged camera.

BOOM! Neither have I. There's my study and proof that red-light cameras don't cause rear end collisions even for drivers with "no judgment". I just won the internet
