A 250 is faster than a 500

A 250 has the longer powerband. Thoughts?

lots of bikes from 80cc to 1200cc
Current : ZX11
KX80

Define faster..

the 250 has mid to low 30's in hp while the 500 has mid to low 50's. The 250 has to use the entire powerband to make that 30hp as well.. weight wise I think it is less than 100 lbs diff between the two.

When I had my 500 I always loved the extra kick you got once you went past 7000rpm.

It all depends on what 250 and what 500 we're talking about here. . .currently there are too many variables to discuss.

I've seen a 500 do a 2:01 at TWS (Texas World Speedway) long course but didn't see any 250's going that fast. I have also seen a 500 do 125mph but haven't seen a 250 do that.

Got two friends, one owns ninja 250 and the other owns gs500f. 500 Much more powerful and faster than the 250.

Just FYI: The GS500 is a pig compared to the water-cooled ninja500. Think 15-20hp difference.

I rode a Ninja500 for 3 years, 15k miles, and NEVER had an issue keeping up with any bikes below 100, especially not the twisties. I've owned many a 250 and none were close.

Also- the Ninja500 rev's to 11.5k... the little ninja 13-14k. That's not a whole lot f over rev, and the torque difference between the 2 is astronomical

FYI,
JC Camacho did a 2:06.1 on it on pump gas on Saturday at TWS (Texas World Speedway). That might be a record on a 250. This bike is legit!

on MSRH long course I do 2:01 all day long with my 250 not pushing... But if you really want to race I can do 1:58 and I'm 250lbs with gear. TWS (Texas World Speedway) my best was 2:15 on the long course but Yorke was able to do 2:11. The fun about the 250's are the corner speed! It's amazing...

Do you if anyone on a 250 can keep up with altmeyer on his cbr500?

I agree 250's can put down some serious lap times but given the same rider a 500 will almost always win.

For you Ninja 500 guys, what street tires do/did you run? I'm considering ditching the Vee for one, and there don't seem to be many grippy options for a 110 front and 130 rear.

This is not correct, several 300's have beaten 500's on certain tracks. It is all about corner speed and drive out of the corners.

The fastest 500 though? Sure put me on a 500 and loads of 250's will beat me. I guess I'd have to go back and look at the 500ss race and 300ss races that were combined.

I have pirelli sport demon but they aren't sticky, I get like 10k miles out of them though. I'll sell you my ninja 500 though.

Sorry but you lost me here, what is the point you are trying to make it again? If you give the same rider the two different bikes on the same track, you want to know which bike you would be able to get around faster right? If that's the case I'll be faster on the 500 vs the 250, yes.

Redford said some 500's have been beat by 300's, my counter point is that the fastest 300 rider will be faster than a slow 500 rider but if you take the fastest 500 rider against the fastest 300 and I bet the 500 always won.

I agree for most people will be faster on a 500 than a 300.
