New Panigale will be 1299cc R remains 1199cc

New 1299s expected to make over 200hp

New Panigale will be 1299cc R remains 1199cc

THE new Ducati Panigale 1299 will get an 100cc displacement increase whilst the R model will remain at 1199cc, according to US motorcycle website AsphaltandRubber.

They say the 1299 and 1299S will get their hike in displacement via an increased stroke to the Panigale’s Superquadro engine. Rumoured to make around 10hp more than the 1199, the 1299 should bring power to over 200hp.

Meanwhile, the 1299R, likely to share many parts with the existing Ducati Panigale Superleggera, will remain 1199cc to accomodate WSBK regulations, which limit twin-cylinder engines to 1200cc.

Ducati appeared to confirm rumours of the 1299 Panigale when a picture was posted on the Facebook page of a US Ducati dealership after it won an award for top sales. It shows staff collecting the award at a dealer convention - in front of a picture of a Panigale with ‘1299’ on the side.

The image was quickly removed from Facebook and replaced with a cropped one.

The 1299 Panigale is expected to be unveiled at the Eicma Milan show in November, alongside Ducati’s 2015 Multistrada with variable valve timing.
