WileCyot '81 CB900F, well sorta....

Well I just picked this gem up Sunday, 10/05/14, and thought I should share with you all. I've been browsing around the forums and have found a lot of information and realized there are some pretty cool guys on here.

The bike is an '81 CB900F with '82 CB750F tank and color scheme and a '83 CB1100F. I love the bike and figured it would be fun to tinker on and get running right. As of right now, after getting the thing running, it's pinging under low RPM high load..... Leads me to believe it's running lean or has too much timing. It has a Dyna2000 ignition system as well. Anyway, I'll post up about that elsewhere.

Great find! Should we ever have the room...and you realize you don't...hit us up. (We dream of having a cafe racer to take to European Bike Night!)

Thanks guys, for now I'm just trying to get it running correctly. It runs great it just has a nasty ping at low rpm high load (heavy throttle input) that I believe is corresponding to a lean condition. The jetting is a 125 and 38 per carb. The jets are so different to the dirtbike jets I'm used to using.

Awesome bike. Hard to find a clean one now. I bought the 1100f in 1983. Red and white. They were great bikes at that time. Only come out that one year. Enjoy..

Also quirky bikes. These CV carbs are retarded from what I'm reading. A great option are FCR GSXR carbs but thatll be a ~900 investment. At that point I would just convert to EFI.

Big Throttle at slow rpm will cause most any carbed bike to ping. Let it have some rpm.
Rpm won't hurt it but lugging the engine will. The ping is detonation and all aluminum motors won't tolerate that for very long.

The Dyna ignition has multiple advance curves you can set. Pick one that's less aggressive and it should cure the pinging.

Got the carbs synched today. Helped quite a bit. Now to find some better carbs..... or go the microsquirt route.
