About to install an exhaust on my bike... questions....

Alright guys,
Im about to install my Boz Moira system on my 07 zx10r. The bike only has 185 miles on it. I have done the first oil change already to get all the new out of the motor but i wanted to ask and make sure it wouldnt harm the bike to install this full system with the low miles on it or if it even makes a difference. I wont be riding it at all until i have my power commander and air filter installed tomorrow morning so the air/fual will be right on it before she hits the street again. Ill prob just start it once i complete the install and let it idle to check for leaks or anykind and just to hear it.

LMK!!

it won't hurt it just to listen to it or even a short low speed run. no high speed stuff.

Ok, ill try to get some pics just for you as were installing it. I know no high speed stuff but just didnt know if it would be a bad idea to install it while its still in the break in process. Im gonna start it and slightly rev it just to hear the tone but no riding until i get it mapped tomorrow and even then, ill still follow the break in rules...

I can't think of any reason of why it would hurt it. Maybe patrick would be more insightful.

Well, i now understand why i wanted to have it done at Motorcycles Unlimited to begin with. I only decided to tackle it myself because my buddy called me and wanted to install it with me and talked me into it. Now I have been dicking with this thing for the past 5 hours and still not right and not to mention, im alone now on this one cause my buddy had to head home. First time the header tubes were touching the plastic when i got it all back together so apart it all came. Then i adjusted it over more to get it to clear and when i tightened it all back up and put the plastics back on, the tip is now touching the plastic!!! :BangHead: :BangHead: Im so frustrated! Its hard to line this thing up without the plastic on the bike. I know it will all fit perfect but i cant line it up without anything to judge from without the plastics being there.

Not only that, this will now be the 4th time including from the factory that i will need to loosen and retighten the header so my stock gaskets are probably toast. I got pics of the progress but i have thrown the camera away and im just trying to get this done! I wanna call it a night but it will bug me if i dont finish it.

On a brighter note, i did quickly start it without the fairings on it to hear it and it sounds BEASTY!! Its SO LOUD though. Ticket city im sure! It sounds mean as though! I only ran it for maybe 10 secs and killed it.

leave everything on the exhaust loose. install fairings. move around pipes to clear. remove fairings. tighten exhaust. this is a common problem i've heard with the moiras: poor fitment. hope you get it all worked out.

there's a couple install threads on zx-10r.net try doing a search there, maybe it will help you.

I picked up exhaust gaskets today and im about to start my next attempt at the install.

Can grease be used to keep the copper gaskets in there while im installing the exhaust. They just fall out otherwise.

Prolly smoke for a while but if you don't use enough to catch fire it shouldn't hurt.

yes u can use grease. Like they said, don't tighten the bolts, just hard enough so you can move the pipes, put plastics, adjust, take off lastics and tighten.
