the cells keep shorting out on me and on my bike the stator often has problems so a better battery pays for itself

Sounds like you have bike problems. You might find a batt that can put up with it longer, but it'll go poof eventually too.

What brand batteries did up use? I'm with volfy on this one and sounds like bike issues than battery. What is the condition of the charging system.

No idea what condition it's in, so hard to say. If it is shorting out the batt cells, the regulator sound like it's not doing it's job and letting the output going over voltage. Dunno for sure.

the short happened cause the battery got tipped over while doing some work on the bike( boring i know) the reason im going for either a agm or gel cell battery is the vn750 has a very notorious stator problem. mostly fixed by a better quality battery. i just changed out the stator and it requires a complete engine pull so to prevent future stator hickups. not only that i hear that storage of gel cell and agm batteries are less problematic. so now that thats said any advice on the actual batteries? im just hoping to prevent further maintenance down the road
