Yeah thought it might have been me until I read about the chunks of motorcycle.

Also not sure why they were the ones passing him...sounds like a n00b.

Yeah thank it wasnt me, unfortunately i have been having to have the need to split hardcore these past few weeks/months of morning commutes especially with the construction/traffic on 290 getting utterly insane, motorcycles splitting lanes corrals the cars to continue moving at pace, like cattle dogs herding.

what i HAVE noticed is that for every horn honker there is a growing number of drivers who are (unneccessarily) inching over slightly to the side to allow room, so as long as it keeps growing at the same rate we should be fine.

and although it is appreciated it still shows a lack of understanding and/or ability to maintain a lane properly so that motorcycles can safely split up the side, for if you jar your vehicle over to the other side, in a city where splitting is legal and bikes are everywhere such as in asia, doing that would only cause you to hit the cyclist on the other side of your vehicle.

I think the commuters on 290 are getting use to the splitting as numbers seem to be increasing with this ongoing construction....I see people doing it all the time these days and people are actually moving over to create a little extra space from time to time. If enough people do it responsibly, sensibly merging in with traffic when it starts moving at 15 mph, not jumping from in between left lanes and right lanes, etc., I think most drivers understand and the support of lanesplitting will increase...even if it is illegal on the books.

Don't know, sounds like the wreck was sometime between 7-8 this morning. I'll find out.

Agreed I try to be as respectful as possible about it and I rarely ever get honked at.

I probably get more people moving to let me over/giving the thumbs up than people giving me dirty looks in their side mirrors.

i felt real dumb that day that i split all the way up to 290 @ dacoma and right when we braked for bumper to bumper traffic my chain snapped. luckily the traffic was moving so slowly that i could push the bike at the same rate of speed as the cars drove, i had to limp the bike down the (luckily) newly widened entry ramp at the 610 inter-change slowly and shamefully.

I had to split 2 weeks ago, when all lights in the grid off the West Beltway were out. I've never seen it so backed up.

I got 3 honks during the 50 minutes to get home. 2 of the honks were definitely because they had been waiting in line forever, and probably felt an injustice.

With slowed or stopped traffic, just go slow. If you're an zipping past and almost clipping side mirrors, you probably deserve to learn a lesson.

Ugh! Humiliating!

I'm at the 290 / Fairbanks exit. I haven't noticed any lane splitting, considering the HOV is right there, too.

When do you see this happen?
