Intermot 2014 new Kawasaki Versys 1000 unveiled
The big Versys gets a fresh face
KAWASAKI has unveiled its re-designed and re-engineered Versys 1000 for next year.
The 2015 model gets dual headlights and a new fairing, which is said to help improve wind protection, aerodynamics and ‘down force’.
According to Kawasaki, the long travel suspension and 17” wheels have been improved and now come fitted with Bridgestone T30 sport touring tyres as standard.
The chassis has been reinforced to support extra luggage options and now uses a new ‘one-key’ clean-mount pannier system. Revisions have been also made to accommodate the new centre-stand, which is now standard fitment on the Versys 1000.
A new screen has been fitted with a wider range of height adjustment, from 30mm to 65mm.
The Versys 1000 will retain its 1,043cc inline four engine with standard-fit ABS, 3-mode Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC), power modes, and a slipper clutch to help prevent rear-wheel lock up on aggressive downshifts and to lighten the clutch lever pull.
Pricing is yet to be announced, more details as they come.
A release from Kawasaki said:
Cologne, Germany was the setting for the unveiling of Kawasaki’s large capacity Versatile System motorcycle for the 2015 season. The Versys 1000 has been cleverly re-engineered and re-designed, completing the reborn family of all-street bikes in the new Kawasaki model range.
A fresh new look has been given to this all-around machine, ensuring that design and a fun and sporty character are both core attributes of the Versys 1000. The Kawasaki family styling is prominent in the dual front headlamps and the new cowling, which not only look the part, but also improve wind protection, aerodynamics and down force.
Fans of its predecessor are already familiar with the endless revs and howling exhaust note only a 1000cc In-Line Four engine can offer. The long travel suspension and 17 inch wheels also remain, however new and improved to match the enhanced performance of the new machine and offer fun sporty riding on a variety of streets/conditions complete with new standard fitment tyres.
The chassis promises sporty, nimble handling care of lightweight aluminium twin-tube frame, now reinforced to support extra luggage options and employing the new clean-mount one-key pannier system. Revisions were also made to accommodate the new centre stand which is standard fitment now on the Versys 1000, making personal maintenance and checks on tour more convenient.
Known for its comfort and practicality, the riding position on the Versys 1000 is upright to offer a high level of control and confidence in a wide range of situations. The touring capabilities of the new motorcycle have been improved with a new adjustable windscreen, with a wider range of height adjustment, from 30mm to 65mm, and no tools required to personalise the riding experience. Additional to the one-key system clean-mount panniers, a host of new accessories are available for the 2015 model to cover all desires.
Many favourites also feature on the new bike, such as standard-fitted ABS, 3-mode KTRC and Power Mode Selection (Full/Low). Complementing these well-known and loved rider’s aids is theAssist & Slipper Clutch which limits back-torque and reduces the effort necessary to pull the clutch lever, a superb feature when big daily mileages are planned.
Already a firm favourite with riders who crave the countryside yet also desire a daily rider, the 2015 Versys 1000 proudly represents the next generation of the Kawasaki litre class, four cylinder, any road philosophy.
