I think you did exactly the right thing, except I would have probably bailed after that 1st conversation about stick or automatic.
I'll also admit to thinking of a scam right off the bat and you telling them where you live and that you would be away from the house was not a good idea, but then, I'm just the suspicious type.

Seriously make the deals go down in someplace public like in front of a police station. That will keep the thieves at bay or at least make them more cautious.

Yes, and I have learned a lesson and not to be so trusting. I honestly thought they were genuine and buying a gift. Believe me I learn my lessons the hard way unfortunately!

After reading all the posts - and thinking back about the weirdness -
I'm going with the scam - - - - -

Highly injurious home defense device will be readily available at a moments notice.

I don't have an opener on my garage. Only a mechanical slide lock - BUT, There was an attempted breakin at my old place. I disengaged the remote opener and installed a double slide mechanical lock into the rails.

THE VERY NEXT NIGHT, someone tried the coat hanger trick to grab the release string. The top panel of the door was bent in and the framing was destroyed and a bunch of chop marks in the wood frame from getting something wedged in so they could slide the hanger inside.

This morning my dog was driving me nuts 10 minutes beforew my alarm was supposed to go off. He kept smacking me in the face with his paw and running in and out of the bedroom.......

................................ then he on the foor. Guess I shouldn't have given him water last night. :-(

[QUOTE=BryanE;3818368]Watch out, maybe a scam. I had similar situation, young Hispanic girl and mother looking at my 00 r1 on CL about a year ago. They came and looked not much speaking English, didn't know anything about a bike. They were buying for a brother / son. I rode and showed them everything was good. They said we come next week and bring trailer and money and get the bike don't sell it. I said ok. I got many text from them in better English text than I got from their speaking it I noticed later on.

do you think by anychance it might be the same people?
are these bikes listed on craiglist too or just motohouston? Are they scouting these bikes from here on the page and lurking?
you should get with the op and possibly meet up with him the next time the girl and her mom want to "meet up" you can possibly identify the same people from what happened to you the last time and give the info such as there phone number to the local p.d.

They were at my place for almost an hour. I could easily identify them. I sure seemed like it was for the mom. They didn't seem interested in any other stuff. We spent 90% of the time at the end of the driveway- 75 feet from the garage.

........hmmmm...............

NEVER show your vehicles at your home/apt. Agree on a well-lit public place where you know there are plenty of surveillance video cams around. In front of a bank branch a few miles away from home is the perfect place.

I tell the buyer/seller this up front, and every one of them agree this was a good idea to protect both parties... Have yet to come across somebody that hesitated about this sort of arrangement. If a buyer dislikes the idea, red flags will go up and I'd probably think twice about dealing them.

The only time you reveal your home address is on the day of the transaction - again best done at a bank branch. You have to anyway, since it'll be on the title and required on the Title Transfer form.

If you plan to meet a potential buyer for a bike you are selling, always meet somewhere public, never let them come to your house. I have always met them at a dealer.
