So you really believe increasing your chances (to what degree?) to appear in court to defend your ticket is enough reason for several cops to risk their jobs and prosecution? In my mind either they are very stupid if this is the case or they had a lot more to gain than just over time. There's other ways to get more pay for work as a cop.

I don't think you understand. Their intentions were never to increase their chances of "winning". They wanted to be able to report to court to collect the overtime. There aren't many extra jobs out there that pay what their overtime paid.

I completely understand. If they have another officer who claims to have witnessed the incident then their chances if the perp getting out of the ticket and it going to court improve. In other words they have increased their chances of being called into court on over time. So the question still stands. How much extra money are they able to make per month going to court that makes it worth losing your job and being prosecuted? How hard is this to understand?

100% from showing up in court? Or total over time from other duties included?

One of the posts before said that one of them made ~150K in the past 3 years. That roughly traduces to a little over 2K per month.

There's people in this country not making that kind of money, so, yes, I'd say it is a considerable amount.

This would make a good chapter in the new version of "Freakonomics".

That's about 4 grand a month. Math isn't your strong suit buddy.

Isn't it actually about 1k a month? 150÷3= 50. 50k/year is about 1k/month. ??

1k a week, not a month. Math isn't your strong suit either.
150÷3=50
50k/year is approximately 1k/week

There's 52 weeks in a year, not 52 months.

Sorry, screwed up that math. I'm half awake right now. Yep, obviously 4k/month.

Funny thing is, I'm actually very good at math, when I'm fully conscious. :-)

Those numbers that are being posted in the media were grossly understated. On the low end they were at least doubling their salary through court overtime. Thats a lot of money for showing up to court sitting in the ac all day.

Officers will take OT or extra job money and live off that money like its guaranteed. Overtime and ej's come and go. But these guys will buy a 300k house, a lake house and several new vehicles and get their wife a new set of and wonder why they have to work so much to maintain that standard of living. Ive seen officers risk their jobs for a piece of so they will surely do it to maintain a lifestyle.

These guys are corrupt and probably wrote fake tickets. This happened to me on i-10. Tons of people zipping by me...chick pulls me over and writes me a ticket. I go to court...theres 4 other officers there?!? WTF They all were put as witnesses.
