New..Need a bike for <$1900!

Hello,
After hanging out with a few of you all at some local meets, first off from the ones I've come in contact with you all are cool as .

Second. I am now looking into getting myself a beginner bike. I have NEVER ridden on or driven a bike! I want a bike that has many aftermarket parts available for it for decent prices. The reason I say this is because I actually have plans for a 500whp SR20 240sx where most of my money will be going into that.

Is it possible from your personal experiences and knowledge that I can get a bike in decent condition for less than $1900? I am looking for a sport bike (kinda like a yamaha R6?) Those type of bikes..

BTW what type of bike would you recommend for a guy that's 6'3" and weighs 220lbs? The last thing I want is to feel very uncomfortable and unsafe.

(I DONT HAVE THE MONEY JUST YET. I AM DOING MY HOMEWORK FOR BIKES)

I've actually got a little 330whp STi that I plan to sell sometime. It's too slow for me and the gas mileage sucks.

What's a good website in terms of used bikes? I'd like to search for 500cc bikes but don't know where to start...

Search for a 250 or 500 ninja or something compareable. Thats the best way to start.
And take the MSF course.

first off, welcome and have you taken the msf??
second, you are not going to find a R6 or any bike similar for $1900 that is in good condition... If you can find a bike for that price, it is going to need a lot of work...

I say hold off on the bike until you can save around $4k to buy a decent used bike... also, take the course first and go sit on a few bikes....

I'll sell you a nice streetfightered 955 for $3k, but it's not really a rookie bike.

I have not taken the course. If I decide to go through with this and can find a 500cc bike for <$2k in decent condition I will consider taking the course. I really want to use my money towards building a car. I think a bike on the side would be fun.

Once again, any websites that you all know of that sell used bikes?

Thanks

cycletrader.com

you should be able to find a used 500 for that much pretty easy.
if you're going to have a project car a bike might be a good idea, having that second vehicle to use when your ride is in pieces in the garage is always nice!

Welcome,

Ninja 500 or SV650 (not SV650S). They will be good for starting and don't have you get bored in a couple of month.

If you want to become a safe and good rider, start easy and upgrade after a couple of trackdays or a year of riding. Less is more.

Hey if you are looking for a 500cc bike I have a 1998 gs 500e I will be selling as soon as I get the title transfered in my name. Im looking to get ~1800 I will get the carbs cleaned before selling it and put a new chain and possibly sprocket for faster acceleration.

PM me for details or if you want to come and check it out or ride it. Im putting it on craigslist the day I get the title transfered because Im looking to get rid of it quick.

I would also recommend looking into an sv650 but with your limited budget, I doubt you will be able to afford one. 600cc sport bike like the r6 will be next to impossible to find for that price unless its been trashed to the limit.

I dont know how the 500 would fit you is the only thing. It has decent power and I hear going one or two teeth down in the front turns it into a whole different beast.

I wouldn;t get a 500 or anything like it as a first bike especially you being over 200lbs. Zx10, GSXR1000, Busa, etc.. would be a much wiser choice and you won't get bored as fast. You drive a fast cars so power for you isn;t an issue. You'll be fine

Good Luck and welcome to the motorcycle world!

this is the BS you will hear or think. Do Not Listen.Listen to what people here are telling you. The listing "whosthis" posted may a great bike for you to learn how to ride BTW.
