KTM Duke 620- What Type of Oil?

Anybody happen to know what oil a 1997 KTM Duke 620 takes? It's an LC4 Motor, 609cc. I'm trying Google, but being so old and so rare, Info on these bikes is scant and hard to come by.

I could tell you what was recommended for my 2000 but I think thr best idea would be to call a couple ktm dealerships tomorrow morning and see what they say.

I'd looked at the oil change guide on this site. It tells EVERYTHING about how to change your own oil, EXCEPT what type of oil to put in it, as far as I can tell. I found a YouTube video that was the same thing. All about what drain bolts to undo, how to add in the new oil, etc.....but didn't once mention what type of oil he was gonna put in it. I just want to top it up a bit. 10W-50 sounds likely to me, though. Found 10W-50 listed on one site, at least, and then that's what r6racer said. I may give the guys at Mainland Cycle a call Tuesday and see what they say (not open on Mondays).

Motorex, or similar. Without going to the storage to check-can't remember what weight. I have Tojo92/Tankmonkeys 96 LC4.

If you are just topping it off, make sure you read how to properly check the oil level. I can't tell you how many people overfill LC4 and XR400R oil levels.

That said, unless you have the original manual, which I used to have but now can't find, you will have to rely on what you can find on the interwebz. Calling different dealerships will get you different answers as well. If you are that , order a manual. But I would imagine a 1997 has had all kinds of different oils and weights in it. IF the PO was the original owner and cared for it all this time, I'd ask him or her.

Motorex, Amzoil, and Rotella are the name brands most use.

As for the weight, 10W50, , 10W40, 10W60, and 10W60 are what should all work within reason.

The Amzoil site has recommendation - so I assume they would stand behind this.

Careful. Mongo is the only person on the planet to actually explode an LC4.....

Not true....it was a RFS KTM 450...twice

Even I couldn't hurt the mighty LC4.

, just look at how badly Umyers was abused....and it still runs.

The Belray Lubricant Advisor is an excellent source for information, or call me in the morning and I'll look it up in the Service Manual. 281-392-8850, ask for Bill in parts. Tojo92 is correct, If the shops you call don't take the time to actually get the info. from the service manual you'll get many different responses. My guess is that KTM recommends Motorex 10W50, but that's only a guess.
